Key Takeaways
- A market woman from Delta State is trending after saying “An Igbo man cannot be President of Nigeria because they’re betrayers.”
- In the viral video, she said she is supporting Tinubu to complete his 8 years because Buhari completed his 8 years, and Tinubu is not the one who scattered the country.
- Her statement has sparked outrage on X, with many Nigerians calling it tribalism, divisive politics, and 2027 campaign propaganda ahead of the general elections.
“An Igbo Man Cannot Be The President Of Nigeria Because They’re Betr@yers. I’m From Delta State, And I’m Supporting Tinubu To Complete His 8 Years. Buhari Completed His 8 Years, So Tinubu Should Be Allowed To Do The Same. Besides, Tinubu Is Not The One Who Scattered The Country.”
That’s the exact quote from a market woman that has set X Nigeria on fire this afternoon.
In the viral video clip, the woman — who identified herself as being from Delta State — openly declared her support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to complete a second term, making it 8 years total, just like former President Muhammadu Buhari did.
Her reason? “ Tinubu is not the one who scattered the country.”
But what made the video blow up is the first part of her statement — a tribal remark targeting Igbos, saying an Igbo man cannot be President because they are betrayers.

On Nigerian Twitter (X), the video with the facepalm emoji 🤦🏾♂️ has divided the timeline:
Some people see it as pure tribalism that has kept Nigeria backward for years. Others see it as paid 2027 campaign content — with market women being recorded to push a narrative. Many Igbos and Deltans are reacting angrily, asking: “Which betrayal? Who did Igbos betray? This is the same tribal politics that won’t let Nigeria progress.”
And then there is the logic: Buhari completed 8 years despite economic hardship, so Tinubu should also complete 8 years. For many Nigerians who are currently complaining that since morning they have not had a square meal, fuel at N1,300, food inflation over 40%, that argument does not hold water.
The woman’s statement also touches a raw nerve in Delta politics. Delta State is South-South, with large Igbo-speaking communities in Anioma (Asaba, Agbor, etc). So for a Delta woman to make such a statement about Igbos, many are asking — who taught her this?
Others are defending her: “She has a right to support who she wants. It’s democracy.”
But the bigger question Xtrend is seeing is: As 2027 approaches, will tribal statements like this increase? INEC just announced new election dates — January 16, 2027 for Presidential — and campaign has already started in markets, motor parks, and social media.
One market woman, one camera, one tribal quote — and the whole country is arguing again.
